Fashion Photography Exhibition 2009-10-15 - 2009-10-31

plakatas_Kelmei_copy.jpgIt’s my fourth halt of the cycle of the personal fashion photography exhibitions. Here the “Fairy Etude” (the first fashion photography exhibition) varies, collection matures and the perfection can be noticed. The beginning of the cycle was in Šiauliai Vocational Education and Training Centre in Technology department; the following first halt had a spectacular beginning in my life as the creator and artist. There I have perceived myself as the artist, introduced my first works, got an exceptional attention and freedom to create. The collection supplemented by my new works was exhibited in the centre of my native town – in Šiauliai Photography Museum. Šiauliai centre always attracted me, I wished to live here and organize various campaigns and performances in its boulevard. Third exhibition is a very important part of my creation as the cycle is exhibited in the higher school now in order to tell that even the most talented artist needs education – the polishing up of one’s own talent. The cycle of the fashion photography will also be moved to other places where the exhibitions are held until it reaches a finale which is better to be concealed now in order to keep a secret and intrigue.

Looking at the woman that is often related to the phenomenon of fashion, I could say that she, as well as fashion, is always accompanied by a secret. However, the secret creates intrigue. It seems that fashion and intrigue go together as two cooperating sisters. In fashion, as well as in the woman’s life, the secret and intrigue and the feminine life full of interferences, joys and irony subsist. All this is like under the veil of secrecy from men’s eyes. Maybe our own visual field needs to be expanded in order to see everything that has always existed nearby. Fashion always reflects the happy-life image and the probability of an unexpected impression. It is especially relevant in the times of today’s globalization. Fashion has slaves everywhere; it makes a part of the world to be its victim. People voluntarily and contented with themselves proudly make a sacrifice for the fashion. Fashion discussions, observation and analyses are the consolidation of the fashion authority, its obvious and noticeable power. It seems there is nobody indifferent to fashion. Even those who unconditionally reject fashion, really live in the environment surrounded by fashion products.

My attitude towards fashion differs in slight satire and irony. In some of the works the problems of existential nature can be beheld. I do care both about the ways of glamorising the body and surprising the spectator. I noticed that a simple person is tied to the commerce of the modern fashion. Once I talked to the journalist of one of Šiauliai city daily newspaper. He asked me a traditional question “What would be in fashion this year?” and my answer “The shopping centres “Saulės miestas”, “Tilžė”, “Bruklinas” that are popular among the trendies, as well as “Pabaliai market” that are popular among the combative fellows and “fyfos”, the candy girls, and among other unambitious fashion experts, would be in fashion” surprised the old-staggered man. (Actually at that time “Akropolis” was not even started to be built, however, now it is the leader of Šiauliai fashion).

Lithuania is like a cradle of fashion as here everything is always in fashion: both the centuries-old scarves and dresses of a grandmother and the modern shoes of Italian designers (though the plagiarisms of these shoes are more fashionable; it seems, the cleverer designers hide underground who offer the same, even “improved” product for a better price). It is fashionable among us to have a posture (style) of a trendy, punk, emo, goth, chav, skin, playboy or even of a nerd or clodhopper, and these television-dictated fashion norms are also fashionable. Therefore, my conclusion is as follows: “No matter what you are, you are still a victim of fashion. Nothing remains but to choose the posture (style) yourself, or the others will choose it for you – they will put the label on you”.
